Professor Vasilyi Portnov (Doctor of Technical Sciences) and Maussymbayeva Aliya (Ph.D.) from Karaganda State Technical University met with the professors from the School of Mining and Earth Sciences (Nazarbayev University) to discuss a joint project.

During the discussion, the Nazarbayev University School of Mining and Earth Sciences team, under the leadership of the project manager Nasser Madaniesfahani, expressed interest in cooperating in researching the distribution of iron minerals and building its spatial model in the coals and rocks of the Shubarkol deposit, implemented at KarSTU by Professor Portnov. Currently, the professors and students of the Mining School of Nazarbayev University are implementing a similar project to build a block model and conduct a geostatistical assessment and analysis of the distribution of iron in the coals of the Shubarkol deposit.

During the meeting, scientists from two State Universities found common ground, expressed their intention to work jointly on projects and consolidate efforts aimed at solving research problems in Kazakhstan. In particular, university representatives are planning to prepare and submit a joint research application within the framework of the Collaborative Research Program (CRP) at Nazarbayev University.

The Collaborative Research Program aims to support the development of new interdisciplinary research collaborations between academic researchers from different disciplines. Funding opportunity is available to all faculty members at and above the rank of Assistant Professor to support the advancement of knowledge in all areas of research, as well as to develop collaborations between Nazarbayev University and Kazakhstani Universities. Collaboration is a vital part of the call, which will be expected to deliver high quality research programs. The program is one of the funding instruments of Nazarbayev University to advance its research excellence.
